When regulating the flow of a gas or fluid during a process, valves are the tools employed. The pathways can be opened, closed, or obstructed with them. In general, a fluid flows from greater pressure to lower pressure, however we can alter the flow's route as we choose by using valves. Valves come in a variety of forms, including solenoid, motor, hydraulic, pneumatic, and manual. Every valve performs a different purpose. Gate Valve
For water delivery systems, a gate valve is the most typical type of valve. It functions as a linear-motion isolation valve and can stop or start the flow. The closure element on a gate valve slides into the flow stream to provide shutoff, hence the term "gate valve." Gate valves can be divided into two main types: Parallel and wedge-shaped. The parallel gate valves use a flat gate between two parallel seats, and a popular type is the knife gate valve designed with a sharp edge on the bottom of the gate.

Globe Valve
Globe valves, in contrast to gate valves, can be used to control flow or pressures as well as completely stop flow. It may occasionally be used as a check valve or a pressure relief valve. The globe valve has a significantly higher pressure loss in the fully open position when compared to a gate valve or ball valve. Typically, when installing globe valves, the inlet should be placed beneath the valve seat. The valve can be set up so that the flow enters over the seat's top and passes through it for severe throttling applications.

Ball Valve
Ball valves regulate flow by sandwiching a metal ball with a hole through its centre between two seats. Ball valves are capable of throttling gases and vapours and are particularly helpful in low flow situations. They are used in many hydrocarbon process applications. Ball valves come in four different main categories: full port, normal port, reduced port, and v port.

Needle Valve
A needle valve is a type of valve that can be used to control the flow of a substance through an appliance or system, typically either water or gas. The presence of a tiny plunger that resembles a needle is the value's distinctive feature. A needle valve is a particular kind of valve having a tiny port and a plunger with a needle-like thread. Although it is often only capable of relatively low flow rates, it allows precise flow modulation. Needle valves are smaller in size. So, there is not an issue of space during its installation. Throttling even with less volume of fluid is possible with this valve.

Butterfly Valve
The butterfly valve is categorised as a quarter-turn valve. The butterfly valve functions similarly to a ball valve for fast shutdown, but unlike a ball valve, it may also open and close gradually. Due to this distinction, the disc is always a part of the flow and permits a reduction in pressure. Pipelines use butterfly valves, a class of rotational motion valves with a quarter-turn, to stop the flow of fluid. Butterfly valves are frequently mentioned as having the ability to control flow. These valves primary uses in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries, as well as in the regulation of water flow in dams and hydroelectric generating plants.
